Heat up the pool!
After having a blast with my aqua students this morning I would like to share with you some of the highlights of my aqua teaching experience.
Every type of dance fitness program I teach has its own unique quality about it. I love working in the fitness industry as it can see how my work can make such a difference to people’s lives. Aqua Zumba, what can I say ‘simply amazing’ the sound of the water as participants move through it and the freedom it gives to even those who have a more restricted range of movement is awesome. I have to pinch myself every time I think of how lucky I am to be able to teach the program.

Information for participants
Aqua Zumba is a total body workout. The program it based on using the resistance of the water to tone the body and burn fat. The water keeps cool while your body moves through it helping you to work harder. What’s also fantastic about the aqua Zumba program is that people of all ages and fitness levels can participate. The buoyancy of the water takes away the impact and stress on the joints that you may experience during land based exercise. Exercising in water allows you to work muscles and joints simultaneously with little risk of injury.
It’s even more important to remember to bring your water bottle to the pool side and to drink throughout. Unlike the dry land Zumba classes you will not sweat. However your body is seriously burning calories as you tone and work the cardiovascular system throughout the class. To fully benefit from the toning properties of the water it is best that you keep your arms in the water for the majority of the class. Students may also like to wear aqua shoes as they help you to grip better in the water making it an even more effective workout. Aqua Zumba it is a seriously fun and effective check out the videos we’re putting out get to a class and make a splash baby.
Advice for Instructors
For an instructor these classes are the most physically challenging and potentially dangerous program to teach. Take a look at some of our Aqua Zumba videos and you’ll see how much fun and how effective the workout is. You also notice the movements are much larger than those we do on dry land. Although I am quite fit, I have had to push myself harder in order to make my technique bigger and strong so they’re effective for my students in the pool. Since teaching these classes I have also had to think even more carefully about my own safety as an instructor in order to avoiding injuries. Working in an environment that is wet it is easy to slip. I have had a few slips luckily I didn’t fall in. Joking aside to overcome these problems I keep the floor tiles in the areas I’m instructing from dry. I also wear trainers with as much grip as possible. The split sole dance sneakers that I love and wear during my land classes are not appropriate for aqua as the cant grip on wet surfaces. The cool down for your students involves dynamic stretches rather than the static ones we do on dry land. As the instructor I work at the pool side so I do some static stretching after the class in order to protect my joints and return them to their pre-exercise state.
